Showing a character or word count in the Perch Control Panel

We asked in our forum for any suggestions for Perch Features yesterday, and one feature made the cut as something we could just pop into the 2.7.5 release.

Clive Walker suggested that we, “Display a live character/word count on page attribute fields, for example page title, meta description, to help editors/admins enter the appropriate number of words/characters in these fields, primarily to follow Google’s guidelines.”

We’ve added a new count attribute to the textarea template tag. You can choose to output words or chars. This will work on any textarea, in page content, in attributes or in an App template.

We hope you like this little feature. While we can’t promise to do every suggestion immediately we would love you to post any thoughts you have on features to that thread or as a new post tagged as a Suggestion. We are constantly mining the forum for features and ideas.
