Perch 2.5 is coming soon

We launched Perch almost five years ago, the first release being quietly launched on the 31st May 2009. Since then the Core product has seen 69 releases – including the major launch of Perch 2 in July 2012.

We have 39 first-party add-ons, all free of charge for license holders to install on their Perch websites. We have seen many thousands of sites take shape using Perch, it is a great privilege for us to play a small part in your successful projects, and we love hearing how much you love Perch.

Perch 2.5 will be the fifth birthday release. As our success as a product is down to your support and enthusiasm about Perch, it is fitting that the 2.5 release should contain your most asked for feature. We had a pretty good idea what that was going to be before we ran our survey earlier this year, but the results of the survey confirmed that it loud and clear. You wanted asset and image management; the ability to reuse uploaded assets around the site. Perch 2.5 is all about asset management and you can see how it is taking shape in this preview video.

Naturally, because this is still a Perch 2 release, it is a free update for all Perch 2 licenses. We are hoping to have it available for Registered Developers to test in the next week or so and released fully shortly afterwards.

As a reminder, Perch 2.5 will also require PHP 5.3 as a minimum. We’ve been letting you know about this for the last few months but if you want to be able to update Perch when 2.5 is released now would be a great time to check your hosting and request that it is upgraded if you are running an old PHP version.
