At the end of 2013 on the Perch podcast we did a review of the year, we thought it would be fun to do the same for 2014.
Perch 2.6 is now available and should be ready to download in your accounts against any Perch 2 license. Here are some of the core new features.
The new Assets functionality in Perch doesn’t just cover image use and re-use. Any type of file can be treated as an Asset and made available for re-use. Perch creates a nice thumbnail preview of images but it is also possible to have a thumbnail of PDF files and even video automatically created.
Among the features in Perch 2.5 is an update to our Textile and Markdown parsers. This is one of the things we’ve been able to do by moving our PHP version requirement to PHP 5.3 as the modern parsers have this as a minimum requirement.
Perch 2.5 is now available for purchase and as a free update for any Perch 2 license. This is our biggest feature release since the launch of Perch 2 in that it includes the much requested Assets management and reuse feature.
We’re currently planning the next milestone release of Perch – version 2.4. It can be too easy to constantly look ahead to what features to add next, when that’s not necessarily the ideal way to make Perch better. Our slogan for this release is fix all the things, and its focus is on revisiting lots of the existing core functionality to make sure it’s as good as it can be.
Perch 2 has landed! If you’ve got an existing site that you would like to upgrade to Perch 2, we’ve tried to make that as easy as possible. We’ve also got a special discount if you get in early.
